Thongs — The Great Debate

G-Strings are Bad for Your Health

Are Thongs Dangerous?

This week it has been announced that G-Strings are officially bad for your health, apparently. Doctors in Germany want to ban g-strings and thongs because they can cause inflammation, damage your skin and make you sore, sometimes even causing infection. G-strings can cause abrasions and injure the sensitive skin around the genital area - especially if they are too tight or made from badly stitched material says Dr Thomas Gent, of the Association of Gynaecologists in Hamburg. He also states that the string part between the buttocks can aid the spread of bacteria and cause fungal infections.

So What's a Girl To Do?

Many of us will be openly rejoicing because they hated them anyway, now armed with the perfect excuse so as not to wear them. They go up your bum, are very uncomfortable and don't make your bum look very good unless of course you are the perfect size 8 with perfect buttocks. And the thong rhymes with wrong, so it must be!

Then of course there's the other side of the debate - no more VPL! (The Visible Panty Line). It doesn't matter what sort of knickers you try, the result is always the same; 2 great visible lines dividing two buttocks into four thus making your bum look even bigger. You don't get that with a thong. And to be fair, they really are not that uncomfortable. It's much more comfortable to have a little bit of fabric from a thong wedged between your bum cheeks than a whole pair of knickers. To avoid risking a health hazard, just buy them a size bigger; there's no need to ban them!

So What's the Alternative?

Shorts - a Solution?

Well, there are so many variations of women's underwear out there it's so hard to choose! You have your Bridget Jones Big Pants, sexy French knickers, low rise knickers, high legged knickers and now, the most recent to join the list is the cute 'boy short'. They look a bit like men's pants, but made for girls. They hug the bottom and avoid those horrible VPLs as well as the many other multitude of sins you wish to hide. Great - what more could a girl ask for? However, I'm not going to throw out all my thongs and rush out and buy a load of boy shorts instead - for some outfits, the thong is the only answer.
